Wallend-Air Paragliding School was established in 1987 by Pete Wallenda, originally from Germany, and he’s been promoting the sport in South Africa ever since. We offer introduction tandem flights, paragliding courses, and events and the company has evolved into developing and manufacturing the popular pull-up student glider, carry clinches and a harness that is currently in development.

We’ve partnered with Gelvenor Textiles and are excited to launch our full-size and speed wings soon. Besides making our own equipment we are agents for various quality international brands and we’re the official agent for Swing in South Africa. As an approved glider service center in Africa, we strive to provide quality service and excellent after sales care.

We love what we do. Tandem Paragliding
The first step in learning to paraglide is to go on a tandem flight with a fully qualified pilot. This is the best way to see what it’s all about and it’s a great introduction to the world of paragliding. The Cape is world-renowned for its scenic beauty and it will take your photo album to the next level. The tandem glider is specifically designed for two people and requires a different flying skill to solo flying. The passenger or student is strapped into the harness in front of the tandem instructor. All our pilots are SAHPA certified and TFI (Tandem Flight Instructor) licensed.

TAKE-OFF AND LANDING INSTRUCTIONS
Take-offs require that you assist the pilot by staying on your feet while doing a little run. When you are instructed to run, keep running until you’re running in the air. Often the glider comes back down for a bit more running before finally being airborne. The amount of running required depends on the strength of the wind at the time of your flight. Only get into your seat when you are told to do so.

RISK INVOLVED
Safety precautions and equipment include helmets, harnesses with back protection, reserve parachutes, careful pre-flight checks and pre-launch observation by the TFI pilot. It can be dangerous but Wallend-Air School of Paragliding has been around since 1989 and you are in good hands with our very experienced TFI pilots. You will also be briefed before your flight.

About Wilderness:
Situated at the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains between the Kaaimans River and the Goukamma Nature Reserve, Wilderness is a quaint seaside village known for its superb long beaches and warm blue water where dolphins are often seen frolicking in the waves. Wilderness also has many rivers, natural lakes, and lagoons that add to the tranquillity and charm. Many water birds breed here and wildlife abound with even temperatures all year round.
Wilderness is an ideal spot for adventure activities, mountain biking, whale and dolphin watching, forest tours with various hikes and walks. There is also a large selection of restaurants and nightlife for those who still have the energy to go out after an action-packed day. There are also plenty of good craft and food markets to stock up on supplies.

Introductory Course:
This two-day course was designed as an introduction to paragliding and it will give you a taste of what the sport is all about along with some basic theory. We use the first and last weekends of the basic license course for the introductory courses. At the end of the introductory course, you can choose to continue immediately with the rest of the 9-day basic license course and all your flights and introductory course fees will then be credited towards your basic license course. On the course, you will learn the following

• Equipment
